January 2014

Even though January is supposed to be a happy time as it is the beginning of a new year, the beginning of January is always a little depressing for me because all it means is that on the 3rd or 4th, Christmas Break is over, and it's time to go back to work. I love so much having those two weeks off to hang out with my little buddy. We love visiting Firehouse Subs as much as we can because during the school year we don't get to eat there all that much. Firehouse is one of Keller's favorites.

His other favorite is Peanut M&M's, and I guess this time he decided to share them with Buzz
Lightyear!

Oh, and see what wonderfulness his father taught him at the ripe old age of 6?!

In mid-January we traveled to Lake Travis near Austin, TX for the 40th birthday of Bryan Hogue, one of Jed's high school buddies. I have never been to Austin before (and for that matter don't even plan to go there!), but I think we only made it as far as Round Rock. All I know is that there was an Ikea-which I did get to shop at- so I was a happy girl.
We caravaned down to Lake Travis with Juan and Amy and Jonas and Ranae (two more of Jed's high school buddies and their wives) and we all shared a condo at a place called The Island. It was pretty neat and I might actually like to go back someday when 1) it isn't January and 2) The Island is actually an island with water around it instead of a dry lake bed.

There are no words....

The ol' PV Panther crew
After a whirlwind weekend at Lake Travis, my birthday was the next weekend. As usual my besties Sara and Heather took me out, and bonus this year my sister-in-law Jessica was able to join us. (She has been stationed at Altus for training so she comes up to visit as often as possible). Though we had grand plans to go to Benvenuti's for dinner, we didn't think to make reservations and were not able to get in. No problem. We enjoyed a fun night at Chuy's in Norman and then came back to my house to share birthday dessert. Heather, who knows me so well, came with 6 little buntlets from Nothin' Bundt Cakes and we all took a bite and passed them around. I can't say I had a favorite because they were all divine. Then we just sat around and gabbed until late into the night. What a great way to spend my birthday!

And what shopping trip to Sam's Club would be complete without cart surfing with your three best guys? (The third being Lion,  of course).

Terra Verde sings at Rivermont

I say it all the time, but I will say it again--we are SO HAPPY that we have found Terra Verde Discovery School for Keller to attend. This year has been amazing. We have gone from having a child who HATED going to school everyday the last two years to having a little boy who can't wait to get there in the morning.  His teacher, Ms. Lindsay Berryhill, is an amazing woman who has gotten Keller to tune in and love learning.  Among the wonderful things he has done in first grade this year, including learning Mandarin, having a lemonade stand to earn money to build an animal hospital for dramatic play, visiting The Orr Family Farm, having a manners lunch at Charlestons, and many more things, he also had the opportunity to sing Christmas carols with his 89 other school mates at Rivermont Retirement Home.  The seniors at the home were so entered by these children and we were truly impressed with how well they all behaved. The singing was excellent, but what was truly inspiring w...

It's been ENTIRELY too long!

Clearly Keller is distraught that it has been so long since my last posting. It has been almost two weeks since my last blog post. These last two weeks at school have been so busy that when I come home at night the last thing I want to do is get on the computer. Plus, working so much has not left me ample time to get good shots of Keller. When we're playing and he does something funny I never have the camera around. However, as a good change of pace I do have some good video taken from this weekend. My mom keeps Keller 2-3 days a week and for some reason she decided the boy does not have enough toys. As if...(haha, throwback to Clueless). So, she decided Keller needed to work on being the next Tiger Woods (before all the you know). Anyway, this is Keller with his very first set of golf clubs. At first glance, he seems like a natural... Doesn't it look like he hit the ball right into the cup and is now getting the ball out of his hole-in-one? We he did get it in the cup ...
