Oklahoma City Zoo

It is spring break in Oklahoma! That means Karis is staying with Mommo and Bapa all week and cousin playtime for Karis and Keller. On Tuesday, we took the kiddos to the zoo. Now, I have been to a few zoos in my lifetime, but I haven't been to the OKC since I was like eight years old--and I probably won't be going back unless Keller begs me.
So here he is...zoo bound!
Decked out in a Sooners ball cap and Woody shades, this kid was ready to see the animals. The only thing he kept saying was "elephant". He really wanted to see those pachyderms!
Karis was ready for the fun  and sun too. And she was decked out in her ultra-cool shades!

Keller, however, didn't have a nap today-never a good combination-so as quick as his enthusiasm showed up, it quickly wore off. Doesn't he look just thrilled? Um, this picture was taken right after we went through the gate!

And this picture was taken along the route somewhere. Keller did not want to ride in his stroller and he didn't want to hold hands to walk, so my last resort was putting his monkey on his back (the monkey's tail acts as a leash so Keller can't wander off) which was not Keller's idea of a good time. Instead he chose to sit on the ground and scream bloody murder. Please notice he threw his hat to the ground in his fit because that is what he does--he gets mad and things go flying........oh how I love the "terrible twos".

He quickly cheered up though when we went into the children's zoo and Karis pointed out the flamingos. Keller was quite impressed with the "ingos".
He also loved running around the children's forest and hanging out in this big tree trunk.

As we headed to the back of the zoo to see the elephants, we stopped to see the gorillas. One was friendly enough to come right up to the glass to check us out as we checked him out. Keller was very excited by the gorillas and kept talking to them. "Monkey, a-a-a-a-a--a (like a monkey call)", he would say.
Finally we made our way back to the new elephant exihibit. Two big elephants who paid the humans no attention whatsoever. Fun.
Our next stop was Cat Forest where we saw a snow leopard, a tiger and this little cat that you can see in the background behind Keller. I have no idea what is was called, it started with an 'S' but it looked like a giant house cat.
Keller LOVES cats of any kind, but he is severely allergic to them. I guess he is going to have to learn to admire them behind glass. He did not want to leave the hall where we saw all the little cats, so he decided to pose for another picture with his cousin.

On our way out of the cat forest, there was a roped-off bamboo jungle you could walk through. Seemed pretty fun, except Keller decided walking on the path through the jungle was not his idea of fun. It was lots more fun to run through all the parts he wasn't actually supposed to! Thankfully Karis was around to chase him, so Mommo and I didn't have to.

We saw  a few more animals during our trip: zebras, okapis, rhinos and hippos to name a few.
Keller and Karis even "rode" a mini-rhino for a picture.
As we called it a day, we saw a giraffe and finally a bison.

It was such a long, hot day that we just had to have a snack on the way home. Ice cream anyone?

Terra Verde sings at Rivermont

I say it all the time, but I will say it again--we are SO HAPPY that we have found Terra Verde Discovery School for Keller to attend. This year has been amazing. We have gone from having a child who HATED going to school everyday the last two years to having a little boy who can't wait to get there in the morning.  His teacher, Ms. Lindsay Berryhill, is an amazing woman who has gotten Keller to tune in and love learning.  Among the wonderful things he has done in first grade this year, including learning Mandarin, having a lemonade stand to earn money to build an animal hospital for dramatic play, visiting The Orr Family Farm, having a manners lunch at Charlestons, and many more things, he also had the opportunity to sing Christmas carols with his 89 other school mates at Rivermont Retirement Home.  The seniors at the home were so entered by these children and we were truly impressed with how well they all behaved. The singing was excellent, but what was truly inspiring w...

It's been ENTIRELY too long!

Clearly Keller is distraught that it has been so long since my last posting. It has been almost two weeks since my last blog post. These last two weeks at school have been so busy that when I come home at night the last thing I want to do is get on the computer. Plus, working so much has not left me ample time to get good shots of Keller. When we're playing and he does something funny I never have the camera around. However, as a good change of pace I do have some good video taken from this weekend. My mom keeps Keller 2-3 days a week and for some reason she decided the boy does not have enough toys. As if...(haha, throwback to Clueless). So, she decided Keller needed to work on being the next Tiger Woods (before all the you know). Anyway, this is Keller with his very first set of golf clubs. At first glance, he seems like a natural... Doesn't it look like he hit the ball right into the cup and is now getting the ball out of his hole-in-one? We he did get it in the cup ...
