First week of school

Where to begin...
It was an interesting and LLOONNGG first week of school. I always forget how long the days are when you first start back after having gotten used to sleeping in and doing nothing all day for approx. 3 months. This year's group of freshmen seem to be quite a good group (of course compared to last year's class, the South Park kids would be considered a good class...). Just because they are good though, does not mean they aren't interesting...
Even though I'm another year older and these kids are another year younger, they get braver and braver. I was hit on or a comment was made about how "hot" I was no less than 14 times in the span of 5 days I was with these kids. I know, I know, and nope, I am not joking. These young men have no shame and don't mind telling me how it is. On the very first day I was called pumpkin, cookie and sweetheart (and all by the same kid!). He quickly learned those terms of endearment were not okay to call his married teacher. Well, that opened a whole new can of worms. Many were quickly dismayed to learn that their new favorite teacher was a Mrs. and not a Miss or Ms.
Sadly, that didn't stop some of them. I heard the whispers all week long, and the fact that I am a mom didn't seem to deter them either.Oh yes, quite the little characters.
My favorite was yesterday when a kid I don;t even have told me I was looking very pretty that day. I said thank you to that comment. Then he noted to me that he wished I was his teacher so that he could admire my fine self all day. REALLY?!?!?!? I wish I could have corrected him right then and there about how disrespectful that was, but he really and truly left me chin-on-the-floor speechless, and when I wanted to talk to him about it later, I couldn't remember what the kid even looked like.
Oh well, the crush will where off soon. My reputation for being a "tough" teacher is now starting to go around and come to fruitition for most. I gave homework over the weekend. GASP! Oh, how cruel I am. Pretty soon instead of hottie, pumpkin, or fine self it's going to be bitch, devil, and mean Mrs. Cole.
Stay tuned!

Terra Verde sings at Rivermont

I say it all the time, but I will say it again--we are SO HAPPY that we have found Terra Verde Discovery School for Keller to attend. This year has been amazing. We have gone from having a child who HATED going to school everyday the last two years to having a little boy who can't wait to get there in the morning.  His teacher, Ms. Lindsay Berryhill, is an amazing woman who has gotten Keller to tune in and love learning.  Among the wonderful things he has done in first grade this year, including learning Mandarin, having a lemonade stand to earn money to build an animal hospital for dramatic play, visiting The Orr Family Farm, having a manners lunch at Charlestons, and many more things, he also had the opportunity to sing Christmas carols with his 89 other school mates at Rivermont Retirement Home.  The seniors at the home were so entered by these children and we were truly impressed with how well they all behaved. The singing was excellent, but what was truly inspiring w...

It's been ENTIRELY too long!

Clearly Keller is distraught that it has been so long since my last posting. It has been almost two weeks since my last blog post. These last two weeks at school have been so busy that when I come home at night the last thing I want to do is get on the computer. Plus, working so much has not left me ample time to get good shots of Keller. When we're playing and he does something funny I never have the camera around. However, as a good change of pace I do have some good video taken from this weekend. My mom keeps Keller 2-3 days a week and for some reason she decided the boy does not have enough toys. As if...(haha, throwback to Clueless). So, she decided Keller needed to work on being the next Tiger Woods (before all the you know). Anyway, this is Keller with his very first set of golf clubs. At first glance, he seems like a natural... Doesn't it look like he hit the ball right into the cup and is now getting the ball out of his hole-in-one? We he did get it in the cup ...
